Living in Hawaii, owning a home, especially in Oahu and Maui during recent times, has been becoming more and more of a farfetched dream for many. Having been a resident of Honolulu, HI for over 27 years, I have witnessed the growth in real estate through my own journey of renting and eventually owning a home. My real estate career was ignited by my curiosity about how some people, regardless of age, are able to live without financial burden, away from the shackles of the 9-5, and just focused on living life with family. I was fortunate to have met financial and real estate mentors who were generous enough to carve out some time for a chat about their journey. I was also fortunate enough that the real estate training center where I had my first classes was located just above the restaurant where I served. My curiosity, continuous learning, and keen observation have allowed me to step on the gas pedal in my real estate career.

Having been in the restaurant/service industry has naturally honed my communication skills, listening skills, and will to help others. These skills have translated into fulfilling my desire of helping others succeed. The biggest motivation for me to keep going is being able to have the opportunity to assist clients, who mostly eventually become close family friends, in one of the biggest purchases of their life that will shape their future. Seeing my family friends experience generational wealth through real estate and homeownership is what fulfills me the most.

Owning a home on this island doesn’t end at merely just purchasing a home. The Hawaiian home comes with the best beaches, awesome aloha vibe from the local neighborhoods, and the all year round perfect weather.

Just a little over a decade ago, I have sworn that a 4B/3BR on the west side will never reach $700k. Looking at the MLS now, who would’ve thought? In 2010, home prices jumped double and even triple in less than a decade. We are now seeing the reflection of the island’s true incessantly increasing value in 2022 with the current bidding amounts. For the first time in my real estate career, I am seeing $100,000-$200,000 above the asking price on an average home in certain locations. The true value of the island is the result of the increasing price points and that more people are realizing that they need to get a piece of paradise – if not now, it will they’ll just have to keep paying more the longer they wait.
